Gems Bonanza Slot

There's often a connection made between Aztec mythology and gems when it comes to online slots. We're not exactly sure why. The ancient Aztecs were fond of many things, but they preferred gold to gems and didn't appear to be any more fond of precious stones than any other civilisation. Nevertheless, that's our theme here in the Gems Bonanza slot, and it's an attractive one. The ruined temple in the background is little more than window dressing, but keep an eye on the lights around the Aztec mask to the right of the reels. They'll be important later. Almost the entire available space on the screen is given over to the absolutely massive reel and row set, which is 8x8. Wins in Gems Bonanza are paid out for clusters rather than lines, with at least five matching jewels required to trigger a win. There are seven different gems on the grid. That’s a comparatively low number of symbols, and so wins happen with pleasing regularity. There's also a wild symbol in Gems Bonanza, but it doesn't appear during the standard base game. It might drop onto your reels during Avalanche Pays, though, which we'll describe as part of the bonus features.

Gems Bonanza Bonus Features

Avalanche Pays

All winning symbols "collapse" away from the reels after a cluster win is recognised, and new ones drop onto the reels to replace them. One of them might be a helpful wild and lead to further wins.

Reel Modifiers

We mentioned the Aztec mask to the right of the reels earlier. Each of the lights around the mask corresponds to one of the gemstone colours on the reels. When they light up (which happens at random), making wins with the corresponding colour triggers a unique feature. With the blue stone lit up, the reels turn "nuclear", and every single symbol on them vanishes after a win, with a whole new set brought in to replace them. When pink is lit up, one of the gems is selected at random and turns wild. With yellow lit up, a set of 2x2 symbols is added to your reels. When the red stone lights up a 3x3 symbol, a 4x4 symbol or even a gigantic 5*5 symbol is added to the reels. The last up is the green gem. When this lights up, somewhere between five and fifteen additional wilds land on the reels.

Free Spins

Every win counts in Gems Bonanza. The slot keeps track of how many wins you’ve had and tallies them up toward the “Gold Fever” free spins feature. You can buy your way into it if you’re not prepared to wait but be warned - it’s expensive! Once you've used over 114 instances of the same symbol in winning clusters, you'll get a free spins feature with an x2 multiplier. From there, it's free spins with an x4 multiplier for 116 symbols, x6 for 120 symbols, x8 for 125 symbols, and x10 for 132 symbols. A meter to the left of the reels helps you to keep track of this. Every single one of the reel modifiers remains active for the duration of free spins.

About Pragmatic Play

Gems Bonanza is the name of this slot, but Pragmatic Play also has slots named Sweet Bonanza, Aztec Bonanza, and Big Bass Bonanza. What does this tell us about Pragmatic Play? Actually, not much beyond the fact they like the word "Bonanza." The slots aren't a series, and in most cases, they're not even similar. They're all fantastic in their own right, though, and we invite you to check them all out in the Rose Slots library! Inevitably, words will sometimes repeat when you make as many online slots as Pragmatic Play does. They've released well over one hundred in the past five years alone, and they draw influences from all over the world. When you consider the fact that they also have offices all over the world from Argentina to Serbia and everywhere in between, perhaps that's not surprising!
